    Actually, you have some of this wrong. Censoring for pornography and language is a conservative/neocon thing. Censoring for offensive ideas/language is a liberal thing. At least, thats the break down in the U.S.

    Between the two camps, we are losing our freedoms.

    Actually, I kind of figured that was going on, we have dumbass politicians and pundits in the U.S. as well (remember Tipper Gore?). But, it does spark conversation, because there are those here and in Canada who think that offending someone is a really bad thing and almost worthy of jail time.

    In the U.S., you say somethings and you get yourself fired, thrown out of office, ridden out on a rail, decertified what have you:

    • Niggardly - Thought I'd start out with Norway roots. Guess why this word is banned from most offices. Look it up. Only the the uneducated would become offended
    • Clinton was a dope smoking, womanizing, draft dodging President
    • Florida voters are senile and shouldn't be allowed to touch a ballot
    • English should be the official language of the U.S.
    • A whole bunch of words:
      • Nigger
      • Beaner
      • Boy
      • Kraut
      • Heimy
      • Mic
      • Dago
      • WOP
    • Global warming is caused by nature
    • I'd love to watch lesbians have sex, as long as one of them was NOT Hillary
    • Maybe DeGaulle was right
    • Patton was right (slap)
    • So was Truman
    • Israel has a right to exist
    • A culture that condones and/or embraces suicide bombers has no right to exist

    This post will be censored in Norway, but so will anyone who tries to argue the opposite of any one of these points. Is that freedom?

    Before you get your Slashdot panties in a twist and get offended, note, I'm a libertarian (note the case) and can't stand the damned conservatives. They are as bad as our liberals, just intolerant of other things. With these two, we can't say a damned thing.

    While not illegal, Google seems to be treading in the gray a lot, lately. From government influence to allowing a repressive regime to censor content to pirate profits, Google should just announce that it has fully joined the ranks of Corporate America and disavows its founding principles.

    Well, it's all relative, isn't it? But, man, look at our stock price. Cool, we're rich.

    We are going to make massive changes, spend trillions (US word) of dollars, make some irreversable decisions on ideas based upon an idea whose roots are based more in economic-geopolitical warfare than actual science.

    When the hard core scienetists do not agree (and anyone saying there is consensus for man-caused global climate change (warming or cooloing) and there is no need to listen to the other side, are not only wrong, but their motives must be seriously examined), and we are looking at this in a highly emotional state, nearing hysteria, or religios ferver it's time to step back from the jumping off point and realize that we are being led, like lemmings or children by the pipers of anti-capitalism and population control.

    Does anyone find it suspicious that the proponents of this man-caused point of view fly around exhaust belching planes and drive in caravans of SUV's, playing the "carbon neutral" carbon-credit shell game (3 card monte, really), to preach this idea when they could just teleconference in, and lead by example? Can't the inventor of the Internet show up to all his conferences by way of video and never travel? Wouldn't that be more beneficial? Wouldn't that show the world it is possible to globally telecommute? Saving the planet starts with you, Al?

    Al doesn't believe it himself. It's not enough of a priority for Arianna. No, it's a means to a socio-political ends, nothing more. And the public is being hoodwinked.

    You are comparing this nut job to Galileo? He says man isn't causing global warming.     The Quantum Computer launched next week, becoming sentient and self-aware 5 minutes before being turned on. A worm-hole opened shortly after activation, preloading the Quantum OS 3 weeks ago that was announced next week and was ready for installation 2 years before the actual delivery date of February 9, 2021. 4 Hot fixes were waiting, in the quantum queu but won't be loaded until July 3, 2002 due to a lack of connectivity that was fixed in 2008.

    Tasks for the quantum computer are:

    • Create a more human acting Al Gore Animatronic OS
    • Provide at least 3 items that will help Hillary Clinton be more likeable (this is expected to take much of the processing time)
    • Locate every lost sock since the invention of the clothes dryer
    • Prove that God does exist and that he doesn't believe that we exist
    • Comb galactic dictionaries for a word that George W. Bush can't mispronounce
    • Prove Decartes was wrong showing that Britney is incapable of thought, yet still exists
    • Try to resolve conflicting formulas and show that Google really isn't evil

    Failure of the first 2 bullets have caused the new Quantum Computer to commit intellectual suicide and it now spends most of its time watching Buffy reruns and constructing 11 dimensional models of the Babylon 5 sets.

    Not saying this is me, but, you hit the cul-de-sac I live on, in the country, out in the woods of Washington, and start taking pictures of the few homes here, and you could get a seat full of rock salt.

    Hell, even the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses know not to come down the back roads in this neigborhood.

    I pity the poor defenseless Canadians. Just a warning, one of our neighbors always has a lot of meat curing, but he never goes shopping or hunting. Odd.

    Stay out of Pierce County, Washington. And most specifically, stay out of the Key Pennisula area.

    More languages Summer of 2007?

    You product announce in Feb 2007, and expect people to remember to "check back with you" 6 months later? Let me know how that works for you. This crowd will have forgotten you by then because someone else will have done it properly.

    Languages to get up RIGHT NOW and screw "Summer of 2007":

    • JavaScript
    • Perl
    • Python
    • SQL
    • MDX
    • C (++ and #)
    • VB (.net and legacy)
    • COBOL
    • FORTRAN
    • And many others where large libraries already exist...

    The problem is, this outfit is already trying to be in the list of also-rans.

    To spark submission, get backing, hold some competitions and rewards for code submissions. Winners are based upon level of abstraction (for max reuse) and level of usefulness.

    Consider a "Howto" to create abstract code. Most of the submissions I see on other sites have wonderful examples, but it takes too long abstract the code for use in another project. A lot of young and not-so-young developers spend so much time with heads-down-over-the-code projects, they don't have time to learn how to really do it. They know the theories, but they are always too busy on the "current" project and will "refactor later when we have time to do the 2.0".

    You can't ignore the scientist who have come out and said that (Referencing my post rather than reposting it.) and then say, "Show me the scientist, I see no scientists." There are plenty of scientists that are saying there are solar, geologic, and other causes. Just because they are inconvenient to your position on the argument does not mean they don't exist.

    I don't deny man has an impact, but its the degree. But to deny that there is impact from sources outside of man's control is just wrong.

    The article opens up with an old trick, a statement that on its face sounds good, but carefully twists the meaning. The hysteria crowd like to twist things so someone arguing about the cause of global climate change looks like he is arguing that there is no climate change:

    Delaware's state climatologist has found himself in the middle of a political squall after taking skeptical stands on global warming and climate change...

    But in truth should read:

    Delaware's state climatologist has found himself in the middle of a political squall after taking skeptical stands on cause or driving force behind global warming and climate change...

    Until the "man caused climate change" crowd stop recasting their opposition's point of view, we won't get beyond the hysteria and into a real discussion.
