Interestingly enough, I just changed a laptop I have to Vista from linux! (of course I won't use any sort of "upgrade" language here to describe it..) The initial reason was a change in my work's VPN software, but there was much less hassle in the change than I expected. Luckily all the drivers were present on the manufacturers website, if not then it would have been a complete bust.
Of course Ubuntu worked out of the box on everything but the VPN.
