There is no permit required to buy ammunition. Just a copy of your criminal record (Strafregisterauszug).

The permit to buy firearms is the same as the background checks done in the US. If you're a Swiss citizen with no criminal record, all you need to do is send in your papers, wait for a week, and you get your permit (Waffenerwerbsschein).

There is no permit needed to own a gun, just to buy one. That's an important distinction.

You're right about carry licenses though - it's unusual for people to carry guns here and it's next to impossible to get a carry license if you don't *need* one.

On the other hand, there is very few crimes here. A murder or a body found always make national news, and these are not daily.

Why doesn't the school just mandate that the kids have laptops that fit certain system requirements and have the parents pay for them? They could even offer a way to bulk-purchase through the school for discounts.

This way, the situations always clear - the kids and it's parents are the owner of the device, theft recovery, insurance, etc. are their business. Makes it much easier.

Human rights (of which Switzerland is a signitary) say that you should be able to have the religion you want and nobody should discriminate against you because of that religion.

So, for example, if part of your religion was that you should beat your wife if she doesn't want to have sex with you, that should be okay?

Or kill your daughter if she has sex with someone that does not belong to your religious group? That would also be okay?

It's not okay, and it's not legal. That's because religious freedom is restricted by other laws - which the Minaret ban happens to be a part of.
