That reminds me of when I used to read Piers Anthony books...he'd use a reversed alphabet to depict what people were saying in strange foreign languages in his Xanth novels(I believe he was one of the first people ever to use 1337speak...used symbols for letters sometimes.). He would also use a shifted alphabet...ROT-1 I suppose you could call it.

Another possible solution is to install a TV-out device and set it to whatever channel you don't use for your VCR and flip to "The KidSnoop Channel" whenever you want.

I am sick of lazy parents trying to get the Gubment to do their job for them. Does anyone know of any organizations that have been formed to get people to Mind Their Own Damn Kids? If not, consideration REALLY needs to be given to forming such a body.

While I agree that we should take the safer route and quarantine the samples, it is extraordinarily unlikely that, even should life (have) exist(ed) on Mars...how would a Martian virus have any idea what to do with our DNA? It would have evolved to affect Martian cells, not Human. If Martians even had cells remotely resembling ours. Which they probably wouldn't.
Unless, Of course, we really came from Mars and this virus is what caused us to flee the planet and start over here on this hot and humid dirtball called Earth.
We could just play yodelling country music at them til they pop, anyway.
...because in the current cutthroat PC sales business, in order to even make the sale in the first place, the OEM builder has to operate at just 5% above cost (if that!). And since you're selling to the Lowest Common Denominator, your average customer will be, for lack of a more direct term, a moron. And so you eat it on tech support.
One place I worked at only warrantied PC's if they had the original OS installation...if the customer messed with the OS beyond standard tweaks, they voided their warranty. It was essentially a hardware-only warranty. BEcause if we spent the hours and hours on the phone with these people that they wanted us to, just because they couldn't RTFM, we'd be out of business in a week. We offered cheap hardware with no support to tightwads. And they paid it, because why pay more for something if you don't have to?
...if you can get it installed, which takes mroe than a little linux experience. But if you're going to be setting these up for the clients and you're obviously a programmer, it should be no problem.
