  1. Like AmigaOS it just wont die on EComStation 2.0 GA To Be Released May 14 · · Score: 4, Interesting

OS/2 is still used quite extensively in Australia by banking institutions, who claim it is still more reliable than the Windows equivalents. Much of the critical banking infrastructure reliant on OS/2 has since been ported to Linux (Mostly running atop RHEL.) The combination of high stability. the very configurable and flexible workplace shell with REXX IPC, at a time when the NT kernel was still being sorted ensured rapid uptake and penetration in some vertical markets. Like the AmigaOS it was very economical of system resources and had a very consistent UI. There are still lessons in the Workplace Shell (OS/2) and Intuition (Amiga) for both KDE and GNOME. 2. Check out UNR again on The Future of Portable Linux Distros · · Score: 1

I have tried many distros on my EEE-PC 701 inc crunchbang, xubuntu, dsl, eeexubuntu, pupeee, vanilla ubuntu and an earlier version of UNR. For various reasons, I was unable to live with these. Unstable bluetooth, wifi support, speed and usability issues were uppermost. I recently tried the latest UNR and now EVERYTHING works, wifi, bluetooth, multi monitors, function keys, webcam etc, and its rock solid. It has transformed the machine from a fun toy to a useful tool. I would highly recommend trying UNR to everyone with a EEEpc 701. A big thank you Mr Ubuntu and all the developers.

Yes I have a brother multifunction network printer print / scan /copy /fax and it wont do anything without all inks being full, no send fax, no scan, no b+w printing even if black is full, if any of the colour cartridges are empty.

Not speaking for the radical libertarians at all, but Ayn Rands' well reasoned view of patents and copyright (as detailed in "Capitalism : The Unknown Ideal" ), if implemented would NOT allow the patent of software, business methods or existing genetic material. Further her arguments provide solid support for the approach taken toward these issues by most slashdotters. Any Rand also predicted the problems that are now occurring in the intellectual property field due to non rational decisions made by patent offices.
