  1. Katz, Are You Jealous or What? on The Return of Microsoft · · Score: 1

Why is it that Microsoft always takes in the shorts for being the biggest, baddest, and meanest kid on the block? I mean come on people, as someone who has been held hostage by Oracle, IBM, Computer Associates, etc, I personally don't understand what all the hubub is about. If Microsoft is really as bug ridden as everyone says it is, then, logic tells us the users will switch from the bug ridden product to the stable product. If this isn't happening it's not Bill G's fault, it's our fault. Personally, I think Katz looks in the mirror and wishes he was as smart as ole Billy Boy. P.S. - Remember, don't whine about what is, create something new or shut up.

  2. It Tweaks Me Off on Oracle Says It Investigated Microsoft Allies · · Score: 1

Please tell me that no one on Slashdot actually thinks that an Oracle run world would be better than a Microsoft world. I mean come on, Larry is a bigger king of vaporware than Bill is. Ask yourselves, where is the Database computer??? This just proves one thing, Larry is scared of Bill. If Oracle had the chance they would be worse than microsoft. Larry has done his level headed best to be just as predatory as the Microsofties, from buying business to making outrageous claims about Oracle running all of the top Fortune 100. You see, if this doesn't piss you off, then you must be either stupid or an Oracle bigot, in which case your opinion doesn't matter.

  3. CYA or Methodology on Do You Buy Into Management Methodologies In IT? · · Score: 1

It has been my experience that most "methodolgies" are simply a way for management to Cover their Asses and to assess blame whenever something goes wrong. Don't get me wrong, I believe that good analysis, design, testing and doc are critical to creating functioning systems, however, it seems to me that most of these methodolgies have been perverted to protect the guilty, not to help the innocent (user). Software creation has never been a mystery to anyone that has actually built something that works efficiently.

  4. Maintainable Code - Oxymoron for Managers on How To Write Unmaintainable Code · · Score: 1

Maintainable code, aah, what exactly constitutes maintainable code?? Let us ponder, to those of use writing "C", we all "think" we know what this is, but, do we as programmers really ever think about this unless we are under the gun to figure out why this bit was flipped? Most of the really good programmers I have worked with don't write complex or unmaintainable code on purpose, this usually happens because we as a group are pretty lazy. Why write 10 lines of code when you can write 1 or two ? Perception also figures into this. For my money, there is no unmaintable code. Any good programmer can figure out whatever he/she wants, "what's printf/display for anyway". Now, before I get flamed, let me say that I have seen poor code, but - this is usually a factor of education, not intention. I usually hear this complaint from newbies/converts who suddenly find out that the computing world is complex and they may have to actually think for themselves. Ask yourself, are you complaining because this is a pain in the "xss" or because you don't know how to fix/implement your problem. If it's door number one, hey ding dong, your getting paid big bucks ain't ya?? Or door number two - shutup and learn you whiner!!

You are absolutely correct sir, I am PARANOID! Do you know why?? There is a law stating "I must wear my seatbelt" There are now laws attempting to tell me what is "Pornagraphy" and what is "ART" This used to be a free country where everybody just minded their damm business. Where does this kind of stuff go from here?? Ever made a mistake in your life or are you as pure as the driven snow?? Open the door, and the thought police will come through it. Do you want a file on you existing somewhere that says you are "subversive" because you visit /. Just Food for Thought See Ya

Oracle on Linux, gee what a great idea! Once Larry gets his foot in the door your at his mercy. As for reliability - Wow!! Super !! - Just ask Ebay. How many times have they been down lately?? Things to ponder, if you know what I mean.

  7. Re:Lions and Tigers and FBI wiretaps (oh my!!) on Tap-Tap-Tapping the Net · · Score: 1

It's not the FBI that scares me. The federal Government scares em, PERIOD! Ever hear of the NSA ( these jackasses read everything including your mail ) I am not a criminal, nor do I aspire to be, however, let me point out the following: If you have ever worked anywhere, you realize that management watches you. ( reads your email, listens to phone calls, etc ) Now, think about how dumb your management is and then magnify that by a factor of 10 and then you have our government. Beleive me brothers and sisters those who can do can and those who can't end up in government service. Just because the law says these guys need to have a warrant to watch you doesn't mean you might not be watched anyway. Never underestimate the power of stupidity in government agencies, maybe you make a joke and offend somebody - oops! gone to jail because some wierdo in California was offended by your sense of humor!! The less power those idiots have the safer we all are. If you don't beleive me, go through an IRS audit and you will feel differently. See ya, P.S. - I ain't paranoid, I'm yo Brother!
