The point I keep coming back to is the difference in review systems.
You have Microsoft with a supposed "merit" based system that is apparently corrupted by politics/popularity/whatever.
Then you have systems like where my dad works where everyone with the same job gets the same pay. If you happen to be really motivated & efficient you get paid the same as the guy who's playing solitare in the corner.
Are these results from two different systems inevitable? Is there a better way?
Another factor for myself was where the money was going. Oil resources correlate rather highly to corrupt government. So send my money to a bunch of capitolist pig-dogs in Japan with a hair of it going to engineers, or send it to a corrupt government where large chunks of end up in the hands of corrupt government officials or worse.
My vote is for the pig-dogs &Y geeks.
When I purchased my Hybrid 2 years ago I worked out the numbers. Without the high prices we're paying now but with the federal tax break the numbers were close over 10 years of ownership. After much thought I decided I'd rather have my money go to engineers than, at best, corrupt governments (oil resources & corruption correlate nicely globally), and at worst some dude who's dream is to kill my kids.
