Apple does not charge customers for the so called "service packs" They are all free. 10.4 tiger and 10.3 panther are not service packs, any more than calling XP a service pack to windows 2000. the service packs would be the updates of 10.x.1 -10.x.9 of the OSes.
that may be part of the reason, but also perhaps it's because the studio itself wants to be sure the DRM doesn't get cracked and suddenly the entrie version of the cracked series goes to p2p, granted they could have had more than 2 season at least. It seems that for the actual TV series, they only have 1st season and current season, for the vintage ones since there is only the first seasons because there is no 'current' season. Also when putting up all those seasons at once some people may get so addicted that they'll watch the entire run at once, (who knows there are crasy people out there, heck since it's the U.S. someone might even sue blaming it on their inability to concentrate on work, but maybe that's a big stretch).
Either way it's probably the studios being cautious. They know this is a huge potential base but they are still wary of the effectiveness of DRM and it's ability of staying uncracked.
And now the speculators will tie this annoucement into the "one More Thing" annoucement that apple will host on oct 12th aren't they, just because of the red curtains on the invite.
iTMS will no longer mean just iTunes Music store, but also movie (or more encompassing,) Media store
Just came back from the theater the movie, was awesome. I had 2 people come with me that hadn't even watched Firefly, and in fact had only heard vague mentionings of the series. Both are now gonna watch the series, and one is (actually borrowing the DVDs now to start watching) already commited to buying the DVD when it comes out.
May Serenity/Firefly see more movies, and eventually a resurection of the series.
