It's been revealed in internal docs that they'd rather see their system or standard being used rather than someone else. If they can push their way into Open Source development and corner the market on it, they can phase out licenses they don't agree with and form the community how they like instead of how the community does.

Now we can argue that all you like, but in a world as big as the one we live in, to truly be free means being able to defend yourself and your neighbor if needed. In order to police the entire country and the world from people that would like to do harm to another would require a security system that would place us all into "prison." We wouldn't be able to walk across the street without first providing evidence that we needed to be on the other side.

Sure, there are vocal aspects of our country, but I think those are fairly minor. I could also argue that Bush's tactics did in fact start the trend toward buying up more arms.

A quick search shows: 2003 noticed a 20% increase... and 60% over the years of 2002-2006. During the Bush administration.

Yeah, after re-reading what I wrote, I realized i left out "in the same toolbar." Most PCs I work with on a daily basis are 1600-1920px wide, but that screen capture was just 145 pixels wider than 1024 which is easily made up by getting rid of the windows logo, the "back" text and maybe shrinking the address a little if that's not enough. The part that irks me about Windows Vista/7 is the additional bars used for navigation that you have no control over. That's what that screen cap was originally made for. (Hence, the notation of lines in the tree view which is another complaint I have for the direction Microsoft is going.)

I actually run Firefox 3 in a similar manner with the address bar in the file menu. The exception being the additional toolbar for the tabs which doesn't bother me at all. It's when you get into 3-4+ bars of tools that it gets out of control.
