This story was carried in PopSci a few years ago. It looks as though they have made little progress. I imagine they are trying to stir up publicity to get some more funding.
P.S. Every 300lb suit you carry to space means 300lbs less cargo/supplies you get to take. At >$10,000 a kilo, cutting a hundred or two pounds is a big deal (especially for numerous suits).
