  1. The war is over on Video Games and the Hi-Def Format Wars · · Score: 0

the war between blueray and hd-dvd will probably be decided by microsoftin the end, if they decide that the next xbox games as well as their windows installation discs are to be put on HD-DVD discs well the war will end, i think that microsoft will choose hd-dvd for their xbox line as they are not going to buy technology from their main compeditor in the gaming world. it is also up to matshushita/nec as to what happens, they are the biggest laptop drive manufacturers in the world, whatever they decide will probably become the standard and judging by samsungs hd-dvd players blueray is dead already

  2. Kids and computers on Do Kids Still Program? · · Score: 1

Im 16 and ive been programming C++, Basic, Java, JavaScript, ActionScript and PIC chips since i was 11, schools dont teach programming, even with the calculators your told what to enter, not what the code does or why it does it, kids dont program because the vast array of downloadable applications and enthralling games out there means they see no need to program, its a dying skill. I know i programmed because my computers didnt do what i wanted, talking to various people they informed me that basic would be pretty easy to learn, so i did, and then some. But on the whole issue, we dont learn anymore, the PlaySation 2 comes with YaBasic on the demo disk, when i asked people in my area did they use it the most comprehensive response i got was "its some porgramming thing, i couldnt be bothered", which really shows our future.

  3. Microsoft on Is the Dell/Microsoft Alliance Fracturing? · · Score: 1

I bought an ibook yesterday, its my first modern mac. Its superb OS X is fantastic, OS X86 should become a mainstream apple product, maybee we could see a dell server with a powered by Mac OS X86 sticker instead of that windows one. Also Microsoft seems to be stopping itself in the browser market. With dell rejecting IE and microsoft stopping its developpment of IE for mac. Its mocrosofts fault though, their failure to role out IE7 with RSS and tabbed browsing has lead to a firefox revolution for windows and mac. everyone I do work for wants firefox, its on my thumbdrive along with winzip, skype and openoffice for new installations

  4. Regualting Wifi on Rental Home Wireless Networks? · · Score: 1

I had this problem with a hotel, i made a vb app that does it by checking and everytime a request is made on any port from 1 - 9999 the vb app checks an approved ip list to check does it have any time remaining, if there is time remaining it sends on the traffic over another ethernet interface, basically if there is time remaining for that IP then it forwards the request. the access and time is controlled by the entering a code, which is kept by the admin (in this case the hotel) and the code consists of how long the user is allowed access for.

Ehh, George Bush, Iraq we need to open up messaging and make it a universal protocol, everything should be interoprable, also MSN/windows messenger should be an optional component at setup, not forced in and hard to remove
