The yellow peril Sodium vapor lights have a huge advantage here in the rainy Pacific Northwest - the pavement becomes visible, as do pedestrians, deer, pets, potholes and lines. But both low and high pressure Na vapor lights can be used, one being a lot less offensive to sky watchers (and I'm one).
