Yeah.. it's great as long as you don't want to connect to an ad-hoc wireless network. From what I've been able to read on the matter, it seems that _no_ Linux distro can currently do this :s

I would expect that the resources that would be required (for the equipment and the expertise) to make a serious attempt at this are out of reach for most. I'm sure the likes of organizations such as the NSA have already attempted this, but as to whether or not they had any success..well I'm sure that information is classified.

That sounds like a good idea, but just make sure that you block or re-route their ip-address/range to the blackholed version of your site. Alternatively, if you wanted, you could direct their ip-range to a page that says 'Blocked. Reason: Loser' (or whatever message you wanted). You could have it block their ip-range for some hours or days, and then fall back to blocking only their ip-address for another period of time). A system like this seems to me as though it would thwart the vast majority of trolls by quickley becoming a time pit in terms of just figuring out WTF is going on.

If you wanted to invest even more time you could also implement checks on http cookies to try and identify the duplicate clients through perhaps even more advanced means.

Naturally, the level will escalate to rediculous levels and go on and on. However, it would allow for extensive control by the administration.

    Pretty control-freakish though, too.

A web application should be cleaning up after each transaction to arrive at a safe state; why wouldn't a web server do the same? If it doesn't, it should.

Ya, and people should always wear their seatbelts, never drink and drive, and floss everytime they brush their teeth; Yet, the majority of humans fail to abide by these 3 simple "should haves".

Maybe you should write a howto covering how you think a web server should behave, and then proceed to write your own implementation from scratch (for my network programming class I had to do this, in C++ with my own sockets library).

Oh, and nevermind the fact that the web server may not have any state information.

I'm sure you're just another troll or BOFH wannabe anyways.
