    thinking logically, if you assume that genes granting thelepathy are present in a fraction of human populations, then either
    1 these gene give an advantage and we are all or will be all in a few generations telepathic, due to selection
    2 these genes do not give any advantage, or the thelepathic advantages are offset by other associated handicaps.
    for example, all telepaths are bleeding hemophiliacs, or telepathy = sterility

    I would say it works only on a short distance, longer hairs are there for the insulating effect obtained when climate gets colder (wooly mammooth comes to mind). If you want more heat dissipation at high temperatures you effectively have to increase skin surface (larger ears of elephants). hairy dogs have to use their tongue and breath to effectively eliminate heat as the hair are indeed insulating.

    a lot of heat dissipation on the skin occurs through evaporation of sweat on the hair.

    Actually not even that. if you consider that all your sensory inputs occur through neurochemical reactions in your nervous system. everything you believe happens now, see,hear,smell,touch happened in fact in the past previous milliseconds of time.
