How many languages does one need to know? 2 isn't bad! Sure beats none. You don't have to know twelve languages to write web apps. Get off your high horse...

Obviously no one here knows anything about Windows deployment tools like Ghost,RIS,Group policies or the plethora of other tools. After initial setup of one desktop you can distribute and manage 100's of machines in the time it takes to get one linux machine setup perfectly for a corporate user... I use all the desktop OS's and for corpoate use nothing beats Win 2000. Sad but true.

Why are we comparing the latest Linux distros to NT anyway. The latest Windows is 2000 folks. 2000 pretty much installs itself. It takes a hell of a long time but it's real easy. See how long it takes to setup DNS, DHCP, web server/ftp, and a directory service compared to *nix. People forget that MacOS and Windows were created to make using computers easier. The point was you shouldn't need to be a programmer to get them working. I like many OS' and Suse Linux is probably my favorite, but good GUI tools can save a lot of time and time is very important when running a business for instance. Linux is great for a person with a lot of time to tweak...

Wow, talk about telling it like it is... I've been thinking this for a long time. I just use all the OS'. They all have their cool features. When Linux dominates the world and that is your only choice (as Windows supposedly is now) you will all wish you had open minds not just open source. It's all about choice and diversity. Don't shove your OS down my throat!!!!! On the other hand Mandrake 7.1 and Suse 6.4 rule!!!!

It's funny how much crap everybody here gives Microsoft and how everyone loves Apple no matter how stupid they get. I love their ad with the tanks in it saying that Pentiums aren't a threat. At least they work at rated speed. If any company other than Apple decided to do this they would be crucified by everyone. Long live Linux on multi processor PC'S!!! Apple's OS is just as closed as Microsoft's. I like the choice of Linux/___BSD with a multitude of desktop choices. Otherwise I'll just run Be.

As I sit here writing this on my Mandrake 6.1 dual Pentiun II 400 machine I think, gosh maybe I should go back to using Windows 2000.I am interested in all OS's but prefer to use Linux because of all the tweaking and custom X stuff I can run. On the other hand Linux doesn't have any decent music software or drivers for the music hardware I own so I still need to use Windows 98 most of the time because this is what I use a computer for. My Linux machine is fine for e-mail and surfing the web but you won't find a Dreamweaver or Net Objects fusion to run on it.Try creating Flash. I still can't replace my Quicken. Give Microsoft a little credit. The fonts and printing on Windows it light years ahead of Linux. I hope there will be a day when Linux truly is the coolest OS out there but it ain't there yet. I also don't want to have to say in two years" I wish I had some other option than this damn Redhat Linux,Iguess since it's free there is no longer any competition." I think BeOS is cool for some stuff but that also has a long way to go. All I'm saying is quite crying like a bunch of two year olds and just use your damn PC any way you want but don't start telling me what I should run! Vampire Tap

Hi all, I spent the entire day at work today downloading the ISO file. (In the background as I did all my other work. really!)I've tried burning it to CD 3 times and it doesn't work. It won't boot and I can't read the disk.(Using Adaptec 3.5)I downloaded Mandrake 6.1 when it was released and everything worked just fine. Is there some secret to making this work? This is really getting on my nerves as I throw away useless CDR's. Can anybody tell me what's up? I am running Suse 6.2, Openlinux 2.3 and Mandrake 6.1 with no problems. Why does Redhat have to fail me? Thanks in advance. Vampire Tap Check out my little OS page at http://www.execpc.com/~mjhunsbe
