They are already loking at making your monitors obsolete by using "Trusted Computing" stuff. They want a handshake through HDCP all the way through your computer to the monitor. This means the Monitors would all have to be replaced with new HDCP compliant types that could handshake with the new Trusted platform. This likely could be pushed to your home entertainment speakers and make them answer back the same way. All digital copy protected all the way through. And no analogs out.
The Analog Hole Plug bill was introducled about 3 weeks ago. Its over at the EFF site.
