Go and write one with the same quality, THEN say "lame". Or go and turn junkbuster "do it yourself" kit into something usable by non-programmer people. It's their choice to release software under their own license.
Browser-based solutions are a good idea. I would love to block images that match certain dimensions (1x1) or have a URL that matches some regexp (/ads/).
Webwasher does that. Also it has a lot of useful options like killing popups and filtering iframes...
I'm running computer non-stop at home since middle '94, when I started fidonet point. Several years later I left fido, but I'm still running computer which stands two meters from my bed. Half of year ago I found that I CAN'T SLEEP WHEN IT'S OFF. Power supply died and on the next day I hurried to buy new power unit and replaced it quickly so I could sleep the next night...
Kaspersky antivirus (http://www.avp.ru) has unix versions. I'm running one under BSDI 4.0.1 and it works ok, catching everything so far. It works with sendmail, so viruses do not even go into mailbox and cron job fetches daily updates.
Now I wish I was permitted to remove all floppy drives across the company...

Uch. Imagine what it'll do in the crash... how far it can fly... how much cars it can slice... etc, etc. Flywheel is a very bad idea.
Most of the food sent to hungry people either rots in storage and shipment, or is diverted before it ends up in the hands (or stomachs) of the people who are hungry.
Sometimes it reaches people, but kills local food makers altogether. It's impossible to compete with free product. And after the wave of "aid" is gone, people starve MORE, not less. Usually humanitarian organisations do more harm than good...
I live in Moscow and sometimes I have to get things from U.S:
1. My friend sent me a lot of magazines (very heavy packs) via standard mail and I've got all of them. Some packs were somewhat chewn, but not open... one had a footprint %-) It's easy to put a CD there between old magazines.
2. When I bought 2 footmouse devices I've paid about $35 per box:) Just find a company which does import something and they will happily help you.
3. About economic situation -- it's becoming better and better during last two years. It's just an opinion.
4. Almost any buerocrat could be beaten. You just have to know how. When I've tried to get technical approval for my car our GIBDD (like DMV in U.S. or whatever... who check for barke condition, CO2, etc) refused to give it because wheel disks were "somewhat rusty" (officer just looked at the car and said "no"). I did not pay any suggested bribe, but contacted a laywer who helped me to file in a complaint. On the paper, it's important. Whoa, after I came to their boss and demanded them to sign a copy of the complaint (i.e. they could not ignore an official paper) they danced around me and gave the approval without even checking my car... BTW, tat special auto lawer cost me only 550 roubles (~$20, less then suggested bribe). It's simple: DON'T GIVE UP:)
Cyberlink is just a mouse. Face muscle controlled -- that's it. Since I have an RSI I've considered buying cyberlink: it makes no sense for real job. Ever tried to do anything useful with no-hands footmouse? I have one. It's good for totally disabled people to read their email, but totally useless if you want to throw in a perl script. Just try to install on-screen keyboard emulator and poke it with conventional mouse and dont' forget that all ergo mouse substitutes are slower than your standard mouse.
What we really need is cyberlink-like system which does enter text -- may be chordal "brainfingers" could do the trick, may be something else, but cyberlink is aimed at totally disabled, not injured who want to stay afloat so we won't see it anytime soon...
The same thing about a Cable Modem ISP, called Virtua, which is charging for bandwidth (you get 1GB/MONTH with the standard access plan). Come on, give us a break.
It's a normal situation where high speed lines are not common. If you try to buy a leased line in Russia you will be billed per gigabyte. ~70% of our ISPs do that. What's the problem?
Some days ago we've heard about player with 4 gig hard drive. Very soon these drives will land into PDAs. If IBM was able to put hard drive into audio player, why Palm Inc can't put it into their next product? Bingo! PDA as palmtop PLUS audio player will storm the market, and there is no way to prohibit mp3/ra/whatever player programs for PDA...
I'm working in a small ISP company in Moscow. Why I say "Balooney!"? Here are some thoughts: 1. Hardware and dedicated lines are EXPENSIVE. FSB is unable to pay for their part of equipment. They will have to spend more than the government spent in Chechnya. And they tried to pass costs of extra dedicated lines and hardware on ISPs themselves. Since the whole idea is unconstitutional, they will fight, because it means loosing huge money. But SORM-2 appeared many months ago and nobody cares and nobody enforces it. Everyone sees it as total utopa. 2. What they will do with that traffic?! If our routers are working hard just to pass traffic from one point to another what hardware they will need to SCAN the traffic?! They will need a lot of people and hardware. Again: money, money, money... 3. Most of LEOs are exceptionally stupid. Actually, the whole mess happened because creators of SORM-2 did not understand realities of existing internet. 4. About crypto: it's illegal to use unlicensed crypto in banks. Period. It has nothing with private people or businesses. Summary: total stupidity of the government * stupidity of the media = this topic

Such machine exists for thousands of years. It's horse.
