The only reason I became interested in computers was the C64! I think many people my age (30) had a C64 or Vic-20 because of the games and maybe some word processing...however, I eventually became interested in computer programming (remember those games in COMPUTE! you could type in!) and communicating with a computer (with my 300 baud modem and some great BBS's in my town) since I had a C64.
IBM machines were just too expensive at the time, and when I did see one that my friend's parents bought, I was not impressed (where's the sound and color!?!) I believe that there would not be as many computer users today if it had not been for the Commodore computers...I'd love to read about their history and relationship with the rest of the computer industry at that time.
I always loved the Steve Jackson games - Ogre, Car Wars, etc...
I don't think the computer versions did the original board games justice - I think Steve Jackson games have just re-released some of the old games http://www.sjgames.com/
I was cleaning my place and I found my old Ogre game - I wish I had someone to play with!
An interesting video about Gary Kildall's life is at the Internet Archive for Computer Chronicles - he was a co-host of the show.

Had to be the first - I enjoyed the Screen Savers segment!
