  1. Toys R us on Toys R Us Isn't Toying With Gus · · Score: 1

Did any of you notice that Toys r us doesn't have any sort of *real* legal standing? They view it as an infringement upon their rights... They have control of other domain names such as anyting with "r us.com" and "us.com" So we should give the law firm the /. effect and all write them and suggest they go after places like:

    www.janus.com/
    www.novus.com/
    www.jesus.com/
www.rous.com/ - Linux server! Show them how stupid they are.
    www.populus.com/

  2. No Subject Given on Sun's Scott McNealy's advice: "get over" privacy · · Score: 1

Did any of you watch "Enemy of the State"? I think Scott McNealy did and it has influenced him greatly! :-)

Just think of what the government, or any other large corporation could be doing right now, for the sake of something like "national security". In some ways we don't have privacy, yet the veil of privacy is what keeps everything running. For instance, every character I type right now is being recorded in a way. I am posting here, and yet, someone could intercept this and then read it at their will. Every computer this hits on the way to slashdot will record that it made some sort of transaction involving what I typed just now. Just look at your e-mail header and properties. The e-mail message knows where it's been and where it's from by talking to e-mail servers. Now who says that is isn't or can't be done for other ways to send the information?

Wow, this must be my longest post.

  4. Be can support the G3's, they just don't want to on Review of BeOS in the Forbes · · Score: 1

Be can do what the programmers did with the LinuxPPC and it will work fine, but they think Apple will turn around and introduce some new spec that would throw everything off and they don't want to fight that kind of battle. They have neither the manpower nor the incination to do that.

  5. Alternative platform to Windows on Review of BeOS in the Forbes · · Score: 1

Yeah, it costs money, but it is already a better OS than Windows, is only the second full release for the platform and costs less than the Windows98 upgrade CD.

  6. Oh yeah on Impact of Windows Programmer Hordes on Linux? · · Score: 1

You missed one thing, the guy wasn't talking about how well the programs ran, he was talking more about how much easier it is for the mainstream user to install and run many Microsoft porducts than it is for them to do so with Linux. Besides, not all Microsoft programmers are idiots. They know very well the limitations of Win NT,95,98.
