Dude even though I agree with you about most of what u said I really thing u're forgetting that the #1 reason why this is brought up oh so frequently is because it all has to be about the end user. And bottom line you may not like it and find it not so usefull but the end user feels confort in seeing there is a manual somewhere withing his reach. And the market is made by non technical people because, as you well know, saddly working with IT doesn't mean that everyone on it has the knowledge or even the will to learn. It is sad but it is true
Honestly, as Linux is still considered THE underdog between WINDOWS and OSX (please consider that Im just talking about the non techies here) I am certain that it should seek some sort of "differentiation" inside the market as, honestly, the free software platfm]orm used with the average user hasn't worked as well as expected. I for one would be glad to see linux catching on with the average user. It would make my life considerably easier.
