I'm reading Slashdot daily for about 18 years already using lynx (I very much like it that way), but for quite a while already nested mode does not have the full text of postings anymore. Would be nice if that could be changed.
Thanks. I already know about those sites and am a frequent user there, and while
I appreciate their value, it's still not what I'm looking for; too much politics
or, IMHO, (pseudo-)philosophical pondering and meta-discussions (which, ironically,
is what/. sorely needs), spoil it for me. If you take that away, there just isn't
much left that'll get me through the boring hours at home/work and where I feel
I'm learning something instead of just spending time.
Hi, I just wanted to express my support. Kinda scary what has become of this site
since I started my reload-athon four years ago. I guess all good things have to
come to an end, and this one should have been dead for quite a while now.
Unless this thread causes some radical changes in/.-staff's mindset, which I
pretty much rule out, I'll have to look for a different place. Does anyone
know of a good discussion site with
a primary focus on all things technical ("hard" technical stuff, not "this new cool gadget will be out real soon now! i want one!")
frequent updates
a good interface (nested view?)
no moderation, or at least not an inherently broken one like/. employs
I do the same, though got already two nasty calls,
basically telling me to "Stop abusing our company
name, or else...!". It was pretty hard to convince
them, that no, I'm not trying to deceive people by
putting their company name into my email and thus
pretending to be them. Since then, I just mangle
their names slightly ("apple" becomes "apl" etc.)

I'm using XOSL, which not only looks very nice, but is rather customizable and now also includes/supports the Ranish Partition Manager. Alas, it's rather big, so it either needs a tiny partition for itself or has to be installed on a DOS partition.

?Bestcrypt 0.8-8 works for me since 2.4.12 (currently running 2.4.16-pre1 and no problems whatsoever).

Have a look at Rubberhose.
