Working in the software business I can tell you customers expect the world from software but aren't willing to pay for it. The blame belongs to the customer (i.e. the government) for accepting lowest bidder contracts instead of the software developers.
Sometimes paying less costs more than doing it right the first time. Your tax dollars at work, folks.
I'm glad Microsoft Research comes up with such brilliant innovations. I'd be impressed with a Speech Server if they developed the speech technology. However, Microsoft bought up the Lernout & Hauspie company and improved speech since. Slapping an RPC interface onto a speech synthesizer = research? I LOL at the future of American research!
Too bad Opera users are shot down visiting GoDaddy web sites. I really prefer the Opera web browser over Firefox. It's small and agile, although Firefox is making ground on both accounts.
