The results of this test don't surprise me. It seems logical that people in that stage of life would mimic instead of understanding. Those that attempted to understand first the things that are important instead of mimicing family where probably more likely to be killed off. Our minds can change gears as we get a better understanding of the world.
Chimps on the other hands may have different needs as they age. It doesn't seem like it has anything to do with intelligence.
