    Sure, delete.... ok. But the Spanish Inquisition? I think not.

  2. Distribution Trouble? on Linux Gurus and OpenStep gurus collaborate · · Score: 1

    Isn't there something in a site that calls itself www.darwinlinux.com and claims to be trying to be "the best free unix distrubtions" {typo the site provided}. Is that to directly imply that Linux can now be safely termed the best Unix around? What about variants of Unix {no names = no flames :-))}
    The focus seems to have shifted somewhat from creating features that people wanted, adding stuff to an OS that is the best around, to creating a version that is unique and your own. Then what really is the diff between MSoft and them (leave the free bit out please). :-)).
    Before there's a flame war on anything that's unintentionally hurt anyone, just consider are distributions doing this kind of positioning such a great idea?
    I wonder if 2 many choices is a good thing or a bad thing...

    What was probably meant was that it will be in tune with (synced with) FreeBSD and future releases of FreeBSD. Just the use of a cool word cause it makes it so much more WOWish..

    Just my 0.2 cents.

  4. Snake Oil Solutions on More On Encryption Source Code Appeal · · Score: 2

    The essential problem in cryptography is the real and crying need for open standards and flexibility. Of the many articles that clear the air on this topic and related stuff, some can be found at http://www.counterpane.com from Bruce S. He calls all unknown and untested algorithms/methods snake oil, a smart and appropriate name.
    This judgement just goes to prove that most people if intelligently provided the facts go to make the appropriate decision. The US crypto laws are simply ridiculous. You cant download software, but you can print the source code, ship it across, scan it back and compile, I mean this is going just too far. Someone better do something about this pretty soon, the Supreme Court seems the most aware !!!

  5. The battle between Software and the Universe on Linux Hardware Detection Project · · Score: 2

    It's a pretty decent idea, except that U tend to run into ordinary people.
    They combine h/w and components to defeat most programmers. Plus, put s/w thru torture tests that cant be imagined.
    Finally, what about the idiot factor? The old line about the struggle between software trying to outsmart the biggest idiot and all that...

  6. Cool Stuff? on Extreme CPU Cooling · · Score: 1

    Wasn't there some news about a company that specialized in this sorta thing?
    They took a cyrix apart if I remember right, by cooling it to -40C. And used it against the world's second highest Chess GM.
    A deep blue alright...
