Almost every perl programmer will spout on and on about how great the Camel book is when in fact, as technical books go, it sucks. Witty, eccentric examples don't make a great book. The fact is no one wants to admit that the book sucks because they will be thought of as a fool. So they proudly trumpet from the mountain tops that nothing is better than the camel book all the while hoping no one notices that they don't understand a bit of it.
So, I will play the part of the small child in the story of "The Emperor's New Clothes" and say, "Hey wait a minute, the camel book sucks! It's about time someone else took a crack at this!"
I have two versions of this software, versions 6 and 8. It is used to boot old tektronix xterms. Click here to see one of my xp114c terminals in action:
I had fun chasing this software down, (a guy from Italy sent it to me!) but it would be nice if it was available to anyone else who might need it. If someone has a repository for this type of thing, I'd be glad to submit it.
However, would there be any licensing issues? My understanding is that the NCD, who bought tektronix xterminal division, currently produces software that supports legacy terminals.
