  1. Just a short notice on Windows Vista - Not So Bad? · · Score: 0, Troll

I've been following the development of this whole "Vista"-thing, especially the opinions of people and the features it has. Now, here are some of the things I've noticed:

    Positive

    a) Apparently, Microsoft is actually making an effort to make this a release of their OS that is reliable.
6 points for effort, results remain to be seen.
    b) The UI looks nice, stylish.
    4 points for design.
    c) They've added features (on the UI) that remind me of WMs available to Linux / Unix.
9 points for looking at a user's community and taking out some of the good elements.

    Total: 19 positive points

    Negative

    a) They're not doing anything special. It's not like I'm getting really excited about this release or anything because it's basically just WinXP with elements thrown in from the Linux community.
-4 points for sucking at originality.

    b) Microsoft is trying to get credit for things they did not come up with. Come on, I mean, the whole security system? That has been around on Unix-like operating systems since the dawn of ages. Linux and Unix users alike have been securing their systems like this back when Microsoft employees were still trying to make fire with sticks!
-12 points for being retards, falling behind and bragging once they start catching up.

    c) Up til now, I haven't really heard of anyone really running it and thinking "Wow, this is a system that is totally filling my needs!". All I hear / read is that people get it up and running (after a painful process that includes stabwounds to the mouth. But let's put that aside for a second) and then "get used" to it. Even experienced users have to adjust in ways they never wanted. Now, that's not a good thing when you're marketing a subsequent release of a product. And all they do to help you? Dazzle you with a thousand glittering sparkles on the desktop.
Sorry, -10 points for forcing people (again) to live in Microsoft's own little world.

    Total -26

Which basically totals to a score of -7. That's not too bad, but do realize that I haven't even touched the surface on this. There are more things that I like, and things I (already) dislike about this release of Windows. Sorry Bill, I'll just stick with my sexy FreeBSD release here. It's been kicking your ass since 1993 (at least) and it probably will for the coming seventeen millenia.

What's all this with "Windows manages" and "Desktop environments"? I just don't get it! What windows!?! What point-and-click!?! Use the freaking command line for a change, you might even enjoy it. And while everyone's looking for pretty colors and dancing colored text, the command line is configurable for color. ((no offence to you people, I use KDE and Gnome myself. KDE @ FreeBSD and Gnome @ Ubuntu, but why is everyone always hyping this so badly?))

  3. Point(s) of interest on Physicist Claims Time Has a Geometry · · Score: 1

I would just like to point the following things out:

    A) Time != Light

    B) Time is a word, designed by Mankind to designate the passing of events in such a manner that they can be reconstructed and reviewed by others or otherwise recollected in greater detail than a simple memory without the use of such a designation.

    C) Remember kids, it just THEORY. Einstein's relativity theory still remains a THEORY, seeing as how no one has actually tested the limits of it. The article refers to research based on the assumption that $Einsteins_theory = 'true'; It all seems logical ... until you test it. See also: Columbus.

You can't really prevent this kind of thing, I mean, governments are cheap so they choose cheap software. Next to that, I like to see Linux doing anything so I have no problem with Linux-based warfare. I'd rather just recompile my kernel than worry about this.

  7. Hmm on Windows, Linux 25 Year Old "Clunkers"? · · Score: 1

What I am wondering is that, how can something become so important if there is no platform for it? Operating systems do not change because something is developed, things change because operating systems allow them to or develop themselves ... all in my opinion of course.

  9. Unfair on 5,198 Software Flaws Found in 2005 · · Score: 4, Insightful

"The ignorant define themselves" why is there even a discussion going on about the essence of the word "flaw"? Fact is that this research has not been fair because all Linux distro's, UNIX variants (such as BSD) and Mac are counted as one, and MS Windows as another. You cannot compare the multitude of Linux distro's to the one-man platform of MS Windows. If there would have been a tally between, say, Redhat, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Mac OS (I dunno what version it is in atm) and MS Windows, and all stats would have been listed seperately ... that would have been fair and clear. Now it's just a mash of all these stats with just one simple query on it SELECT bugs FROM stats WHERE os = Windows. THey just mashed the rest together and called it "the rest".
