I happen to work for a major demographic / marketing firm.. we have access to all sorts of ZIP Code related material.... ZIP Code (standard 5 digit) are update yearly....in1996 there were 35,414 in 1997 there were 35,407 ZIP Codes, in 1998 there were 35,405 and in 1999 there are currently 35,412, so you can see that thet do fluctuae (and of course these are just residential ZIPs , not PO Boxes or RPO/NPOs).
