Well for one thing there are regulated industries that are required by law to validate systems. Upgrades in operating systems can require a complete system re-validation. Validation is a costly undertaking and somewhat onerous. Many companies will opt to retain the old systems rather than update. I still have customers that are running NT4 because of this.

    Lets see:

    2. Internet explorer - Don't use,

    3. 'eye candy' - I want my OS to run the applications that I need to use. NOT look pretty. These are things I turn off anyway. (I mean geez, the default XP skin looked like a Fisher-Price toy.)

    4. Desktop search - I know where my files are. Most times it would take me longer to get a query started than to just go to the folder.

    5. Better updates. - "We shipped a broken product but we're going to make it easier to get it fixed now." yep...

    6. More media - A lot of people make better media editors/players that microsoft.

    7. Parental controls - Right, because most parents who need this kind of help don't already rely on their kids for computer support.

Honestly, I think the scale of the platforms will be far too small to make any real impact to surface temperature. There are many conventional power plants along the coast of the US that have been discharging MegaWatts of warm water into rivers and tidal basins (daily) for years. If there was going to be a surface temperature change large enough to cause a change in hurricane patterns wouldn't we have noticed by now?
The thing is the oceans are really big heat sinks.
