ASP or JSP?

Yey, another benchmark from the JAVA cult. Go to some third party to get a decent benchmark, somebody that doesn't have anything to gain by saying JSP is faster.
The company I worked for has decided to go JAVA only 3 years ago. We had systems written in ASP (Custumizable Online Store for example) which were basicaly recreacted in JSP. I can tell you that writing in JSP was a huge strugle. The lanague was so incomplete compared to ASP that you had to write most of the code in JAVA then call it from JSP in weird ways. The debuging process was terrible, very often you had to restart the server (JRUN) in order to see your changes, or delete the compiled.java,.class files. Sytax was changed around from version to version, methods droped, changed. JRUN and JSP documentation was very disorganized. ASP was still faster. Many of these problems are not as severe these days. But I still find programing in ASP much simpler then in JSP. ------------ As for the language limitations? Neither ASP or JSP is a language. You can use serveral languages ASP always allowed Vbscript and Jscript. JSP is supposedly supposed to support other languages since version 1.1 even Pascal. ------------ Programming Communities> ASP is commercial once you are Microsoft's friend you get many freebies but free code is hard to find. JSP comes from the JAVA cult, they only want you to use JAVA technologies and think that JAVA is gonna take over the world someday. You have to deal with way too many closeminded people. JAVA is closely controled by it's mentors and you have to spend lots of mulla for different pieces of technology. PHP is nice and free:) ------------ That's it for today.
There is a big number of companies willing to pay the $5000 for a tweaked Apache installation/modules to work with thier existing system structure. No system is quite the same therefore a lot of $$$ potential for customization.
The latest AMD chip Athlon has a much superior design then any Intel chip that has been released yet. That goes for the FPU as well. The problem however is in everything else but the chip, in other words the whole package. Intel being a much larger company has much better manufacturing plants, has control over the motherboard makers and whatnot. All these things are slowing Athlon's progress down. However AMD is not giving up in this little chip war so we should see it ahead by one step at least for a little while. Because there are so many differences between the architectures, you have to consider the whole package not just the CPU in designing a "faster system". What is this system main functionality? 3d gaming, web server, 3d graphic design?
I'm using win98, win2k, winNT, and linux and each of them has it's uses. Win2k has brought together the win9x world and the winNT world at the expense of better hardware. However I really have to congradulate M$ on this one they were able to create a perfect workstation/server OS for my needs. I am still running Candidate relese 2 since it came out (september 99) and I didn't get a blue screen of death even once. And I'm tweaking the hell out of it. However you do have to have a high end system to run it at with resonable performance. Forget any socket-7 based machine.
I don't see how anything on the Internet can be labeled as Propaganda.
Defenition of Propaganda: Systematically distributed material which advocates a point of view, or information reflecting the views and interests of those people advocating such a point of view And it only works if it's a major source of information for large groups of people. While on the internet you are free to chose what you read. Nobody is telling you what to think.
That is a lovely theory, but you forget one simple fact. There is thousands of people milking of this fortune. These people will do anything to continue getting their share of crumbs and reaching for a whole loaf whenever the oportunity arises.
Quite on the contrary. Pink Floyd lived on after first Sid Barret departed then Roger Waters. Both of these guys had huge impact on PF frankly PF wouldn't exist wihtout them. However after PF reunited without Rorger Waters they still managed to climb to the top of the charts releasing such great albums like the division bell. As for Roger Waters solo... everybody knows that if Amuzed to Death was released under the PF title it would be huge seller. But it's still a great Album just didn't get the public attention that it would normaly would receive as a PF album.
Just because the data send is harmless is irrelevant. When you are browsing the web you are aware that there is data exchanged between you and the servers. When you are running a standalone application you do not expect it to send any data out to anywhere but your local devices. If the application does do so it is no longer a standalone application and should make the users aware of that. On the other hand, as internet grows more and more application will report back to some external server. So those who really would like to stay anonymous will be forced to protect themselves with firewalls or TCP/IP Monitoring utilities.
The English, Polish and the French battled over the credits of cracking Enigma. The truth is simple: While the Polish have spent years on collecting information and solving the mathematical side of the problem with some contribution from the French. The english have later used that information to automate the process which made quick deciphering possible.

Just like this whole over publicized issue is. People fail to see the source of the problem. Of course if geeks and neards are constantly tortured, opressed, rejected and loughed at they'll dream of a day of glory and revange. A day when they will show everyone that they indeed are special.
Dear Coward, It's usually pointless to respond to pointless questions... But I see that I have forgotten to add some definition of Ignorance, which simply means that you are locked into a particular view. Failing to see from other perspectives. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions... But it's pointless to call somebody else ignorant just because they have a different view on things then you. Now to get back to the topic. Australia has their own culture. If it's people are not objecting to the laws their own politicians are proposing they must be comfortable with them to a degree. If they choose not to be part of something let them. The whole world doesn't have to go with North American fashions. Diversity is good, sameness is boring.
Most of the screen shots just showed a 2d-plane floting in 3d-space. They could at least make some talking head or something to make it look more interesting.
Wherever you go in North America today, you will hear something about homesexuality, drugs, weird sexual tandancies... Sure all these are for people IF and only IF they choose to be part of them. Why do these have to be forced on everybody else? Especialy people who are not mentaly mature to form THEIR opinions about such issues? North America has chosen it's route. Time will tell if it was a good choice. Now stick your noses up your a$$e$ and stop calling everybody else "ignorant" or an "idiot" just because their ways are not like yours!
Unfortunately this is very far from the truth. The average buyer has no clue what they are actually buying. They go with what the big brand copanies tell them is good. As long as the big coperations have control over the media the process of facts and well informed people making new trands is always going to be slow.
I've been trying to convince the pointy haired managment in our company to go with ATHLON for months. To them Intel for CPUs is like Rolex for watches they won't look at facts and listen to reson. FUD is God.
There is also another factor. Even though Intel is clearly behind, their chips are still decent. Meaning the difference is not easly noticable by the uninformed masses. Therefore it will take time, time which AMD doesn't really have.
I think you just revealed your own prejudices. Actually that was meant to underline/illustrate the contrast. As for "common"... I think the phrase goes hand in hand with the statistics. Anyhow I wasn't judeing anything so how can you call it a "prejudice"?
Lets say your lovely serotype (white wealthy straight Christian male) got into a fight with a common black thug something went wrong the black got killed it made it to the news and by then it was transformed into a racial murder. As for our gay friend he is in fashion today. It's good to be gay and marry. Either way you look at it people like to go to extremes. --- Btw. Your conclusion kinda contradicts your first paragraph.
Knowledge is power, therefore it must be controlled. Privacy is a privilege, trying to hide it must be illegal. Preaching Ignorance, our way is the right way. The "Matrix" is here to keep you where you are, to provide the illusion of freedom. And when you can see it, you will realise that there is no freedom unless you make your own rules.
Scripting Background: 2 years of JSP&ASP, tried a bit of Perl, PHP3, and JavaServlets. ASP Advantages: If you're planing to stick with NT and IIS do yourself a favor and go with ASP. As a langague it's quite powerful, more then enough for small apps and medium apps. Disadvantages: True it will probably require a better server then the same app writen in Perl but hey, it's much easier to write in and everything you need comes in one package. If security is an issue then any NT/IIS solution just won't do... For cross platform development you will have to look into 3rd party. Conclusion: Best if you want a solution as quickly, efortlessly as posible. JSP/JavaServlets. Advantages Umm... thinking hard now... Alright someday when this java stuff will actually work... Wait, I got one: You can advertise that your app is writen in Java therefore it must be great. MANY people especialy in the marketing department fall for this one. Disadvantages: Do yourself a favor and just don't... Pricy middleware, buggy, langague changes everyday, features are removed, unstable, slow, abstract but not practical. You will be stuck trying to include all kinds of Java technologies into your app finding that none can do a satisfactory job at what they are desinged for. Memory leaks, not a good thing on the server! Don't expect it to run on any platform, expect to have many problems, not to mention running on the same plaform with a different middleware, or even with a newer version of the original middleware... Conclusion: Any Java technology is NOT here yet, many people are waiting for it to come. However the question is will it ever? Especialy since SUN is dropping their promises one by one... PERL Advantages: Works on everything, Fast! Disadvantages: This langague was desinged to do string manipulation not to be a complete package for writing web apps. Conclusion: If compatibility/speed is most important then go for it. PHP3 Advantages: Only good if NT/IIS is just a temporary stage. Disadvantages: Not native to NT, IIS dosn't like that it discriminates against anything that isn't from M$. Conlusion: If you feel that you're going to be switching Plaforms soon go for it. It's a nice package.

"China could use against us" Why would China have beef with us? We are not US.
