  1. Re:Converting people... on Making Linux Easy With Eazel's Andy Hertzfeld · · Score: 1

I think the biggest "mainstream" problem for Linux is not the lack of games per se, but rather the lack of the resources to bring people to Linux.

i have to disagree with this point... i consider myself mostly a "mainstream" user, in that i use my computer for what seem to be the main activities of modern computing in the home: i game, i process words (there's gotta be a better verb for that) and i use assorted internet toys. In addition, i do a fair chunk of graphics work. Now, in Win98, i can do ALL of this. Crashes, while they happen more than i'd like, are generally few and far between, and i have all the applications that i want right there - Plus access to hundreds and thousands more at the drop of a hat (or the click of a hyperlink)

In Linux, i can't play my games, i can't use Photoshop, and i can't use all the programs that i've come to be familiar with and enjoy using.

Comparisons? Linux=Less crashes, but functionally useless (ditto with BeOS, which i *do* have installed on this box just cos i wanted to play with it)

Win98=crashes from time to time, but fully useful.

    My decision is made.

But give me half an excuse, and i'd jump ship in a moment.
