We have America in our country name therfore, Americans. Canada - Canadians, Mexico - Mexicans, Colombia - Colombians, Brazil - Brazilians, Peru - Peruvians. What's the problem here? I don't want to be classified as part of a continent, because people from a continent rarely share equal cultural bonds, which is really what these name clasifications are about.
Personally, I think that we reserve the right to call ourselves Americans if we damn well please, because if you don't like it, we'll just give you all back to Hitler. The point is, we've been calling ourselves that for long enough that we aren't going to change, it's a matter of national pride.
That being said, this is the most pointless off-topic contibution to Slashdot in a long time. I wish I could mod everyone down who was off-topic. (That includes me)
