    Those things you describe weren't designed by somebody, like the designers Maxis designed Sim City. They are reality, which stumbles along as the result of all of everybody pushing things.

    And, much of the suffering of the 20th century happened because people like Hitler, Stalin, and Mao decided they had it all figured out and could just impose their plan.

    It just doesn't work. Rules just can't be imposed down from on high.

    If you want to design and code a successful application, you has better understand the use case and the processes around that application. Just being able to 'code' is hopeless.

  5. Conversely, and it saddens me to have to say this, the techno people back in the labs are usually hopeless when it comes to the business end of running a successful company. Having a STEM degree for the most part means you'll have a comfortably secure position somewhere in the middle of the company. Making better than average, but that's it.

  6. Panasonic makes Tesla's batteries. When Tesla collapses Panasonic can partner with whomever else is better at that particular business. It won't be anybody associated with Musk.

    He is at least a little different than many of the other scatological marvels in Washington. It seemed like enough of a different lever to pull for a lot of American voters that they did it. A lot of the loudest shrieking is even still coming from 'inside the beltway' which indicates actual progress.

    If there is a Human Rights crisis in Columbia isn't the right choice for the refugees to find sancuary in Mexico? They would then be much closer to their families in their homeland and also in a land where the dominant language is the same. Why is Mexico shuttling these people across their country? Don't they want to help save the refugees?

    But does quitting smoking really save money for society? It means the smokers live longer, which means years more of non-productive lives in old age. Smokers live shorter, but happier lives since smoking brings pleasure (we're not supposed to consider that, though). Longer, more miserable lives in a nursing home provide more employment for the keepers, of course.

    Let's be honest and not just perform half-baked cost analysis.
