Actually I always thought it's the berlin DAX, at least that's what the BBC always reports. German news reports about 6 different exchanges throughout the country from each major city. Not all the exchanges are in on city like New York.
First of all, I need to clarify that my post was mostly in response to "Needed Soon, Quantum DEcryption may be here NOW!" by Cy Guy. I apologize for not posting it there.
Secondly, in response to your post: would anyone have believed me if I had said in the mid 60s that the US government has an aircraft that easily travels at mach 3? Of course not, no one would have. The SR-71 wasn't declassified until the early 90s. It still holds records 35 years after it was built.
My post wasn't intended to prove that such advanced technology as I claimed exists for certain, but rather point out that it is incredibly likely.
I am not suprised at all by this... one of the only ways that Israel remains a soverign power is by being more technically advanced than its neighbors. They have to! And developing tools like this is just part of it. The Israelie government is very much like the US in this sense, however the US is even further ahead. You know all those cool satilite photos in the movies.. the ones where you can see the headlines of a newspaper lying on the ground? The US government had that technology in the 60s! And you don't think the RSA can cut 512 like butter? Of course they can, what else do you think all that money is used for? Its not a bad thing that the US government posseses such power... its very good in fact. It won't be misused either, because that risks revealing that they have it. Don't worry, all these are government toys... our 128 bit encryption is save in the civilian sector for quite a while yet.
Did you ever wonder why a candle's flame is hotter at the top where hardly any light is put out than at the base? That answers why the corona of the sun is hotter than the surface.
I would suggest running the server on a notebook. Linux supports alot of notebooks, so using a stable os isn't a problem. Also, if you run it with the screen off you are pulling nearly no power. The thing is as simple as a pc for running the server (if you call that simple) and you have low power drain because notebooks are designed with that as their first priority. Plus it isn't all that expensive either!
In my area (in america anyway, cable modem access in germany, lol!) we have Charter Communications (formerly marcus). Here, Charter contracted one of the local networking firms to create and manage the cable(modem) network. From that knowledge I would gather that the quality of your service (at least with charter) will depend on your area. Luckily for me, the company put in a good system. In another city charter may not contract as good of a company, and therefore the service could suck.
Do remember that the intended improvement of the GForce 256 over its predecessors is intended to be image quality, rather than speed. Your eye has difficulty seeing the difference between 60 and 80fps, but it can clearly see the difference between a truely shaped, shadowed wheel and a round object with a texture slapped on top. We will not get to see this for 6-12 months however, until game developers really take advantage of the new technology.
Better said, the G3/G4 of graphic cards. One can easily argue that the increase of the P3 over the P2 are hype. (ok, so apple does hype the Gs a bit too, but they actually are faster when you have apps designed for the chip. Don't forget that the p3 didn't add or improve any x86 instructions much, now did they?)
If you can get better performance at a lower clock speed, that is much better than running it fast. Less heat, less stress on the silicon and there's a better possibility that the chip CAN go faster. I'd love it if I could get the performance of an athlon 600 out of a chip that runs at 100, even though it doesn't sound as sexy.
If I had the money, I'd spend $300 on the card, $50,000 on the car, $15,000 on the sterio/tv and $250,000 on the house. But who's the moron that spends $21.95 a month for aol?
Especially considering the fact that there aren't a whole lot of people that like to do floating point intensive apps on notebooks. When was the last time you saw someone rendering a bryce 3d scene on the plane from LA to chicago?
There is not answer to this, but there are many answers. The cause cannot be summed up, it cannot be written in one sentence, one paragraph, one page or one encyclopedia. I'm sure the two boys didn't even know why they did it. Of course they had rationalisations, but it cannot be explained. Our only hope to understand would require us to review their entire life: all their experiences, everything. This is impossible. Look, however, at the culture they grew up in. Not just one part like guns or video games, but everything.
It is typical of americans to blame a problem on one cause, but to overlook the whole. Perhaps this is easier, perhaps we are close minded, perhaps both. This is also part of our culture on a whole, even a little bit human nature. We cannot blame the press alone, it is a mirror of us. The press only accelerates changes to our culture. We cannot blame guns alone, they don't kill by themselves. We cannot blame the public schools alone, they are only an embodyment of the students and teachers that make up the school. We must instead look to ourselves and our way of life. Perhaps then we can begin to understand.
The problem I see with this law is that it was obviously not well researched, or thought out. If it had, it would not have been passed. I can only see this law holding up in courts if it can be absolutely proved that a virus was created with evil intent by John Doe. This is very difficult to do, and therefore I can't see this law having much power. Don't be worried until there is a EU directive this broad...
Actually, if you want to be nit-pickey you could argue that 'Think Different' is correct. If 'diferent' is a modifier of 'to think', than it needs to be the adjective form: 'differently'. However, if you consider different to be a thing, thus a noun and accusative of the verb 'think', than it needs to remain in the adjective form, 'different'.
um..... LinuxPPC?

Yes but SIMD are added, they don't accelerate what's already there in the x86 standard.

The difference between theory and practice is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
So have at it!

Be totally honest... have you heard of anything being good or stable on win95/98? (not intended to be flamebait)

I have talked to many non-french europeons, and they tend to believe the French as a whole to be more arrogant than Americans.
