  1. Re:Fox Sunday/Friday victims of the early 2000s on Details Emerge On Futurama's "Rebirth" (and Return) · · Score: 1

Fox killed Futurama by bad scheduling. See, they put the show on various slots Sunday nights, but because of the variable length of NFL football game coverage, the Sunday night lineup was often damaged by running late, being joined in progress, not being shown to the whole nation, and other problems. The only rules were that The Simpsons must run untouched at as close to 8pm ET as possible.

When Episode I came out Fox aired the original Star Wars at 5pm on a Sunday. Futurama normally came on at 7 on Sundays. Scheduling genius, right? Star Wars then Futurama! What better way to attract your new audience? That night they pre-empted Futurama and aired two episodes of King of the Hill followed by the Simpsons.

All it has to do is get you past a certain threshold to allow new things to happen, like streaming of 1080p content, to be a game changer. If they were only 5% away before and only now just got past it, it's still a game changer.

The sad thing is that this site has already seen that happen with Linux zealotry. I can't believe I'm watching this little bit of history repeat itself again. Who is going to take Android or any other OS seriously when people that like it actively call iPhone users 'iSheep' or say that the only reason they like their phone is because Steve Jobs tells them to?

Funny you should mention that. I'm not an atheist and I feel like you do. I don't like mentioning it whether I'm here on Slashdot or even in public. (I'm not living in the 'heartland' so I can imagine there's a big difference.) I think Intelligent Design, for example, is a very weak and unsubstantiated theory and pinch the bridge of my nose whenever attempts are made to enforce it in school. But if I say I'm not atheist here on Slashdot, it's assumed I go along with that idea and would want to convince the whole planet that it's true. Mainly because there are some loud-mouthed people trying to get laws made and it's easy to generalize. You'd think Star Trek would have taught us about labeling people.. but... yeah, that's the world we live in. I don't think it'll be too long before it's fashionable to not be affiliated with religion. It's already happening at the coasts.

If it helps, you'll be happy to know I'm not the slightest bit interested in changing your mind. Try to keep in mind the shades-of-gray.
