If the target audience is likely to have more obscure or out of date software then it would be best to make sure that there is support for them. If the target is "normal people"(mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, or windows users) with an average income then I would go with mainstream IE5 generation to current generation browsers.
If the target audience is unknown then they probably won't like the site anyways, unless you got lucky and just happened to design it to there tastes. So its best to go off what the general publick actualy uses.

ATI uses "crossfire" to use multiple gpus on one image. So Nvidia is not the only company doing this.
