Computer Science is still a hot field, regardless of the current dot-com bubble. People will always need software engineers, website developers, database administrators, and general IT guys.
There's nothing wrong with social media. Google is just completely doing it wrong. They're trying to re-create what other sites already have in place instead of doing something new and innovative. Google should already get the hint that people don't want to create google profiles and re-friend each other after what happened with buzz. Adding a +1 button to recommend cool sites to friends won't want to make people buy into google's social network. People are fine with using facebook and twitter for that. Also, haven't sites like stumble upon and delicious been doing this for years? Does anyone have any common sense at google these days?
Yes, people do read scientific articles and believe the stuff that's written without looking into the actual studies or source material. But, the reason why they believe it is because they assume that it is indeed backed up by facts. Faith, on the other hand, is believing in something without having any proof or any possible way to back it up. I hear this science = faith argument pretty frequently from religious people trying to validate their own beliefs. However, the whole concept of faith is that religious beliefs do not need to be validated. It doesn't make sense to me.
Why would I want to take notes by hand when I type 3x faster? It's more efficient. The only classes I ever took notes by hand in were math classes, or classes that involved copying diagrams.

I could understand CS majors being required to take linear algebra, but Calculus and Calculus 2? It's a waste of credits for the most part.
...or how about people just turn their head and look behind them when they're backing up? It's really not that hard.

I just ran into this at work last week. I'm glad it's finally making the tech sites!!
