From the article: "So the certification level ADVANCED+ has been achieved by ESET NOD32 only, that has detected 20% less of the samples that AVIRA AntiVir has discovered but has triggered only 7 false alarms. AntiVir, on the contrary, with its 17 false positives hasn't gone beyond the ADVANCED certification level, which also includes Kaspersky, Microsoft, Symantec, McAfee and GDATA."
So the subject of this Slashdot article is obviously wrong and misleading.
The article says "it overcame the built in system redundancy"... how the hell does ONE failing card in a redundant setup "overcome" the redundant backup parts/systems ??
If the card had failed completely the redundant one would probably have kicked in. What I think happened is the card malfunctioned in a way causing the system to still think that the card is fine and there is no need for the redundant one to kick in.
I understand that the pharmaceutical companies need to get money for what they invested in developing the drugs but I really don't think they are losing (a lot of) money on the generic drugs sold in poor countries since the people there don't have money to buy the "real" expensive ones. So it's either you let does people use cheap generic drugs or let them die since they can't afford the medication.
Shutting down at the end of the day and powering up the next morning increases the probability of HDD failure. It's better for the HDD to run all the time than to cold boot every morning.
Ericsson, the company that played the biggest part in the development of Bluetooth is not even mentioned in the suit. So this is probably something about a way of implementing a certain part of the standard, and not the whole standard itself. To say that this is endangering bluetooth as technology is a bit exagerating.

It doesn't even mean that the ones behind the attack are russian nationals. For all we know it could be americans using 0wned computers in Russia.

Is it true that ISS's Proventia G100 can decypher Skype chat conversations?
