You can check webhostingmenu.com to find better web hosting. It lists plans from FirstWorld, AF Hosting, NYI.net, Hyper Hosting, Verio, Bitserve, ThinkHost, Interliant, and Dell Host. None of these will be as bad as CommuniTech. [/plug]
I think what is missing here is that the abortion opponents not only said doctors are bad because they are performing abortions and these are the doctors, but it also provided addresses to aid in the violence against doctors. It is one thing if someone puts out a violent video game where someone shoots somebody, but it is another if someone includes in that videogame the contact info of the person they encourage to be killed.
Inklink does use commercials before the game while it is loading and also a commercial break halfway through about a 12 round game that advertises digital cameras from HP. It was a bit annoying at first, but Inklink is a great game and a bit addictive. It is basically online Pictionary.
I can't find an article about it but NY's WWWAC List has discussed 100Mbps connections in Manhattan. At least one company is offereing to wire up buildings with 100Mbps connections if enough people in the building sign up. It isn't big yet, just a few buildings I think, but it does exist.
I am sure this has been mentioned before, but this is a perfect time for a slashdot poll on favorite ridiculous patent...
a) MS patent on web polls
b) RAMBUS patent on every time of RAM that will ever be made EVER
c) One click
etc...
I'd just like to mention that my university, Columbia, is hiring CS prof's and desparately needs some people who can teach courses in AI. I'm graduating this May, but I'd still like to see somebody some time get to take a course in Machine Learning... so if you're laid off and have a CS Ph.D try Columbia University:)
This also could be because the good old boys in Washington don't differ all that much deep down inside. The interpretation depends on your perspective. Do you believe that America's politicians are working for the good of the country or not?
You should actually email a couple members of the Australian gov't about your decision and the reasoning. If the Australia gov't finds out that they are not able to attract tech talent because they have some of the stupidest laws in world, they may reconsider. Money talks.
Targetting advertising works well. General untargeted banner ads don't work weel. Does anyone have any real data on whether bigger banner ads are actually more effective than normal sized banner ads?
Also, I think a factor is how the space is used. The skyscrapper ads on nytimes.com aren't bad. The huge block ads on CNET suck and are annoying. Granted the CENT huge block visually can't be missed, but one purposely looks away from it and does not read it because it is a huge blob. In contrast the nytimes.com skyscrapper is at the side of the page and more often lures people's attention I think. This is probably partly due to the quality of design of banners in the two spaces as well.
I'm certain that LDS folks would not approve of how I live my life, and I'm not confident of their ability to keep their noses out of it.
I agree. Different states/regions are going to have different cultures. I live in NYC. I doubt the majority of residents of Utah would enjoy living here, and I certainly would not like living in Utah.
I think the question posed is when does culture of a region become such that a large number of prospective employees (in this case techies) not want to live there.
Well, strictly speaking, TOS lasted 3 seasons AND six blockbuster motion pictures.
LOL. "No there were 63 original episodes." "No there were 64." Anyone recall the South Park episode where a couple of Star Trek nerds build a time machine...
www.baiting.org is one of my favorite humor sites on the web. It has AIM logs of clueless people looking for cybersex being fooled. Sorry I didn't posted it earlier as the site was down.
Remember also that Bertelsmann holds a pretty big percentage of AOL Europe's shares, so there's business ties between AOL Time Warner and Bertelsmann already.
And you of course also are thinking of the deal between BMG(Bertlesmann) and Napster. BMG already is on the side of Napster making deals and I would have to think an alliance with AOL-TW would put TW in a pro-Napster deal position. That is two of the five. Boy, I can't wait til all five of those companies do away with the formalities of being separate entities and merge. But, seriously do any of the Big 5 of the RIAA have significant stakes in competitors to AOL, which would make a Napster-AOL-RIAA deal bad for them?
There are about 270 million people in the US. AOL has 27 million members paying $20/month.
2. What's going to stop people from sharing Napster accounts?
Napster might well cut a deal with AOL where all AOL users become Napster members. AOL would pay Napster around $50 million a month for this and would maybe raise its rates a dollar or two. Remember AOL is now AOL Time Warner one of the Big Five recording companies.
The logical extension of this once Napster does cut a deal with the RIAA similar to the one that Napster proposed for $1Billion, Napster becomes an attractive target for buyout/merger with AOL-Time Warner.
I have a very good inside source that tells me that the new series is the Early Days of the Federation without doubt. Rick Berman just likes to mess with trekkies.
I think it might be very difficult to bring one of them to the surface without killing it. They live in over 500m of water and while they apparently rise some to feed they are deep water dwellers. The change in preassure as they got to the surface might kill them.

I don't think doing the www to chanel thing always works does it? Sometimes a link that starts partners. will work.
