I'm not sure *most* people hate products because they are developed by Microsoft. I am sure that *most* people hate closed standards because they inhibit competition and hinder technological advancement. MS just happens to be the most blatant offender of this mantra.
Upon graduation from a small state school, I got a job in a large process-heavy (formal requirements, design, integration, code+test, etc). For a long time, trying to understand the development process was a source of frustration and I could not understand why I couldn't just write the damn code. I actually have a friend who devoted his masters thesis to designing a CM course because of his frustration. I find the process an important part of creating good software now, and realize I could have been a much more valuable employee had I understood the process coming out of school.
Thanks guys, too bad it's moving so slow. I can't stand evolution and I refuse to use Windows. I guess people will have to be surprised when I walk into a meeting whose invitation I didn't reply to for a while longer.
I don't think that this will be viewed as an "Enterprise" solution even when everything gets integrated. In my experience, any product that you can't pay someone an exorbitent amount of money to support just isn't worth using according to most management types.
Continuing the old Mozilla suite is fine, but one thing I am missing is a way to integrate my email and calendar. Mozilla "Lightning" was supposed to do this but the page hasn't been updated since January of 2005. Anyone have any clue if this is still on the Mozilla radar?
