Windows XP has a auto backup function. How ever, it's sole purpose is limited to backing up configuration data for the system. For all the data to be securely backed up, you have to have user intervention. This requires taking time ocassionally to burn some disks.
Most unix users are aware of this, and that fateful day when the harddisk dies they are ready.
Most Windows users don't think about it.
