    > I actually can't play games with the CD in the drive - my laptop slows to a molasses-like crawl whenever data is being read from the CD drive. \n Check the cdrom's device options. If there's a DMA option available, then setting it would definitely improve performance. I've had a similar issue with this linux setup-config/laptop. \n Cheers !

I see that flying car or something else that's been on Popular Science's front page in real life. Glad I canceled that stupid magazine subscription thirty some odd years ago. BTW, anybody know if Scientific American has been following Popular Science into the crapper too ?

hahaha .. pinpoint ?! .. hahaha.. by the people that brought you the "daisy-cutter" bomb ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BLU-82. If you meant pinpoint carpet bombing then yeah, I'll agree with you.

Try out this article I read a few days back http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/JB01Ak02.html.

Also, a bit of googling shows that maybe your definition of "pinpoint" might be off a bit: http://loveandsubversion.net/?p=101. If this is just a case of cherry picking what to believe, fine. If there's controversy then the truth might not be so obvious. I'm really, really suspicious about alternative news sources but from them I suspect reading our own local news reporting may be a bit more umm, "patriotic" about our behaviour and achievements.

  4. Re:Wonder and amazement on The Economic Development of the Moon · · Score: 1

There is no life on the Moon. There is no environment for environmentalists to worry about. If they're worried about the faint possibility that human mining will somehow create some crater on the moon visible from the Earth, they can just pretend an asteroid made it,

Is that the only environmental "impact" you can think of ? what about waste byproducts produced by the
mining itself ? isnt this what the earth-based mining companies have to explain away to local governments ?
Granted there's a lot less life on the moon than here and that your space suit would protect you more than
just your average overall, but you might have to decontaminate your suit more thoroughly than just to remove
the moon dust. Remember: not such a long time ago asbestos was considered harmless.
