I'm a bit of a fan of TNG and Enterprise, but never could sit through even one episode of TOS because it just looked so awful. Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. Improving some of the cringe-worthy bits sounds like a great idea to me.
If you hate the thought of watching this updated version then don't watch it. Simple as that. Why should your personal preferences override mine? What gives you the right to demand that I don't get to see just because you don't want to? There's plenty of room for both.
I've watched countless hours of TNG, and it's easily my favourite Trek series. But if they announced they were updating it in an equivalent way I'd not mind one bit. I'd try one episode and if I didn't like it I'd not watch any more.
In the UK a man can rape an 8 year old girl nine times over a period of years, threatening and intimidating her and get 6 years in prison. I'd love to see how they could justify letting a "hacker" who did no malicious damage and did not profit from his activities get 70 years...

I like it. Very clearly still Slashdot while making this a bit more modern. Slashdot has been living in the past for far too long.
