I went through a lot of opinions on the subject. I don't understand why most of them are based on the freedom of speach only.
I live in a country where the information was strictly controled. And I'm not talking only about the freedom to voice your complaints against the government, but also about the access to literature, scientific magazines, movies, anything. My country lived the communist nightmare. Sincerly, I'm amazed by the simple information that the chineese people have home access to computers and internet. I wish I had this when I was young, even with all the stupid restrictions imposed. I starved for information those years.
Most of you start from the false premise that freedom comes from the possibility to express whatever one wants to express. Well, it is not quite so. For having freedom it is necessary to start looking for it. It is not something to be given, it is to be won. And it is education that may bring one to the point where one will claim ones freedom. What the internet, Google included, will provide to the people of China is potential education. It is only up to them to properly use the tool given to them.
Anyway, I really doubt that anyone in China needs to read on internet about the wrongs done by their government. I think that anyone starting to search about this is already informed on the subject. The problem is to give them access to what they don't know.
Well, about the money.... make your own company, fight with the market and if after some years you can tell you don't care about them...
