Because it's not a question of which one is better.
If you have MS Office documents that can't be read by OO, then what good is OO to you ? So, yes, for some people "Open Office isn't as good because it doesn't do [something] the way MS Office does it" is a serious issue. OO might be better, just not for you.
So, better/worse is a relative term depending on your needs. Is a Ferrari better then a truck ? Not if you live in a farm.
What OO has to do is to learn from these cases and make a better product. I live in Brasil and think the brazilian government should throw a couple dozen developers in OO to fix the most serious bugs, then standardize the document format to ODF and the Office suite to OO. Heck, the government should have it's own Linux distro, train all the support teams on it and deploy it to thousands of workstations, saving literally billions in licence fees.
This is not so simple... Chavez didn't close the TV channel because it didn't wholly support him. He did it because the TV channel manipulated the news during the coup in 2002, instead of depicting as a coup by some military, they showed it almost as a "transition" and reported that Chaves had rennounced the presidency, when he didn't do it. So this channel took sides and wasn't impartial.
So, why Chaves didn't close the station then ? I don't know, but my guess is that he tought he needed more support from the people, as he has now.
The main question is whether is fair, proper or legal to close the channel. Chaves claims that as the channel is against his government and the government has the right to refuse a concession, so it's legal. The opposition claims thet this is against free press and even when the station took sides and wasn't partial, they had the right to do it. A free press doesn't mean a impartial one.
I don't know how thing work in Venezuela because I'm in Brasil, but here ALL channels appear to be impartial, but edit and show the news to defend their positions, be political or economical. It's not like Fox that clearly states its political side, so you can argue this is a matter of an authoritarian president against an unethical TV station.
I don't agree. Yes, DSP code should be very optimized, but you can do it in any language as long the compiler knows how to optimize that. Or IBM can simply create a library of OpenGL functions to the Cell, everything written in assembly with wrappers to higher level languages. You only have to do it once. Or You can simply create a library of OpenGL functions to the Cell, everything written in assembly with wrappers to higher level languages and sell it. Game engines are quite complex, but most of the work in a game is done my artists amd modellers, not programmers. Games with HUGE environments, real looking trees/facilities/rocks/whatever take time to be created. And game engines can and should be licensed, so companies can concentrate on what they do best, be that game engines or the content.
People, this is just silly. Yes, China manufactures a LOT of things, and do it for a fraction of the cost in developed countries. But we're NOT talking about steel or cars or airplanes here. It's just an AP. You can set up a production line in two months, and order our ICs and PCBs from a loooong list of countries. So no, the chinese pushing a law that requires all the equipment manufactured there to hav this standar and ONLY thins standar will simply scare away business. And they certainly don't want that.
You have two distinct problems: 1) finding a book you know you own. 2) finding if you own a specific book.
Problem no 2 can be solved by having a database of books.
Problem 1 can only be solved by organizing or books. It's no use to know thet you have the first book of the Foundation series if you can't find it! You can divide your book by technicall and literature. Then divide the technical ones by subject. Divide the literature ones by fiction and non-fiction. Then divide them by author ( in alphabetical order or not ).

Go to the nearest school and ask the librarian! I'm sure he/she will have some good tips for you!
