I wonder if seti@home could be modified to include some sort of asteroid tracking system. Perhaps companies could sell compatable telescopes, and even computer systems.......
Anyone with a whole brain, and a little planning, knows that you drive an ICBM with all of the nukes on it through one of those cheasy airport metal detectors. Airport security is an oxymoron. Wait till terrorists take an airport hostage, instead of an airplane and you will see what I mean.
This would make a neat remote control for the house. Hook it up to your Linux box, and have it run an X server. Plug in a navigable 3d representation of your home, and maybe some custom tcl/tk apps for the more common stuff, and you are in business.
You could even make it flush the toilet you are sitting on from it:-)
The more Linux 3d apps we can get, and the more multimedia support we can come up with, the closer Linux gets to being the indisputable OS for everyone.

Go to www.blender.nl to look at one of Linux's prominent 3d programs. AC3D is also a 3d option.
I don't have the url right off hand. Sorry.
I had heard that one of the big companies had ported their stuff to Linux, but I think it was mostly a CAD app.
As for 2d, well of course there is GIMP. Nuff Said there.
