  1. Oops on Satellite Radio Coming in 2001 · · Score: 1

Since satellite signals can't go though solid objects, driving down a street surrounded by tall buildings would effectively block all reception. And forget about listening to your radio in a parking garage / structure, going through a tunnel etc. In fact, driving down a country road with a line of trees down the one side may also interfere - as long as these trees are in the line of sight. Other problems, such as signals bouncing off of buildings, creating two signals milliseconds apart must also be taken into account.

Each radio must have a buffer able to record several seconds of audio. When reception is lost, the radio keeps playing out of the buffer, until reception is restored. Of course each radio transmission would therefore be lagged by the number of seconds your radio is capable of buffering.

You know what kind of ping you get over satellite ? 250ms for a round trip. Try playing your Quake deathmatch with that lag.

No, you do not have Digital TV. If you had you would not require a decoder box. You would simply plug the arial coax cable directly into the TV and that would be that. You require a decoder box because there must be something that converts the incoming digital signal (an MPEG-2 transport stream) into an analogue format suitable for your TV.

The UK managed to be the first country to begin transmitting a TERRESTRIAL digital signal. Meaning you can pick up the signal using a decoder box and a standard arial. Everyone has been transmitting digital satellite signals for years.

Digital TV in the US means that not only is the signal digital, but so is the TV. The TV becomes one large computer monitor and is able to process the digital MPEG-2 signal itself. Note: these sets are expensive as they are all HD (High Definition). SD (Standard Definition) digital TV sets are also possible and should be a lot cheaper, however they will look like standard TV sets (abiet with a much higher picture quality) and not the widescreen 16x9 HD format.

As far as the Interactive TV component is concerned, the UK uses a terrible monstrosity called MHEG. I nearly went mad after spending over six months writing an interactive Stock application in it.

If I may, Singapore is no more part of Malaysia than Mexico is part of the US. It is an island just off the Malaysian peninsula.

Their laws are harsh but have you ever walked in the city ? You can literaly eat off of the sidewalk/pavement.

And anyway - I for one am glad that yank kid got his ass wupped for spraying graffiti in their country. Who the hell does he think he is. Bet you he'll think twice about doing that again, even now when he's on good 'ol US of A soil.
