As with most things in Acorn RISC OS, if you used the right-hand mouse button rather than the left it would do something similar, but different. In the case of directories, left-double-click would open it, leaving the happy parent open; whereas right-double-click would open the directory and close the parent (it would open the child in the same spot as the parent) [it all sounds complicated, but isn't really]. Mind you, I still use RISC OS, if only for web, mail and ssh (to a linux box). (Messenger Pro is a rather nice mail program which lacks some of the features of mutt but retains most of the nice ones). And for anyone interested, yes, gcc is available for it (2.95 last time I looked).
