Except that in the Good 'Ole USofA we routinely arrest and detain, often without trial, citizens of other nations. We cover it up with nonsense like "security" and "copyright". If we feel the need to get outraged by this kind of behaviour we need look no further than our own shores.
I would almost agree with you except for a couple of points.
1) For MANY people, flying is a requirment. Whether it is for work or other reasons, flying is the only feasible method of travel.
2) The only people they are protecting is themselves (via union supported wages/benefits/hours) and the manufacturers of the useless and easily abused scanners that they STILL will not release rad information on.
3) If it was so important to have the TSA why are they only in certain places? The airport where I live uses 4 terminals. Only ONE of those terminals has a TSA presence.
am a programmer - and i would be willing to stand behind my code used in the environment for which it was intended..
ROFL! Wow, you actually expect liability to be limited to the scope the product was INTENDED? That ranks up there with lawsuits against toys because little jimmy choked on a Lego brick or Peggy Sue shoved a jet fighter figure up her nose and shot the plastic missile into her sinus. There is no limit to the stupid and out of intended uses people will put things. There is NO SUCH THING AS IDIOT PROOF. The world keeps making better idiots.
If this becomes law, at some point you WILL be sued. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Exodus 21 talks extensively about the buying, selling, and owning of slaves.
Deuteronomy is indeed the source of the 2 fabrics comment. The reason you wont see christians follow it? Same as every other backwards and self-contradictory passage, they pick and choose what bits to believe.
Or the bible for that matter which says that selling a disobedient child into slavery is a good deal. Or fathering 2 separate warring peoples with your daughters is a virtuous thing. Or that wearing two different types of fabric in the same outfit is "an abomination"
Except that poor people pay much more in sales tax as a percent of income than a rich person. Sales tax is on a regressive scale. The more an item costs, the lower the sales tax on the item is. Cars are a good example. Where I live you pay, for example, 9% sales tax up to $5000. Anything over that $5k is taxed at 2%. So if I buy a 5000 car, I pay 9%. But if a rich person buys a $100k car he pays a SIGNIFICANTLY lower overall percentage.
There are LOTS of nifty things like that.
That we have the resources, at this moment, to utterly and permanently eliminate starvation is not an if.
Really? The primary cause of starvation in most of the world is NOT lack of food or money. The causes are political. Warlords stealing shipments, governments not allowing humanitarian aid, funds being diverted or squandered. Unless your "resource" somehow avoids those pitfalls, you can't stop starvation.
duh.
In what way do patents, in ANY form, foster innovation? Strangely enough, there have been thousands of years of inventions without patents. I've never seen a single shred of evidence that patents do anything other than stifle creativity and lead to competition by litigation.
Or, here's another thought...
Maybe the person's life is so miserable they see that splurge of eating out after payday as the one bright spot in an otherwise desperate and pathetic existence.
Or maybe they are stupid. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference.
So how is this any different than the "security" we have now? To date there has been ZERO actual threats stopped by TSA. Zero. Go ahead and spout the nonsense about, "anouncing successes merely gives info to the terrorists..." That is garbage and you know it. The few terrorist plots that HAVE been exposed were done by police. Actual cops, not TSA rent-a-cops. Every procedure by TSA has been reactionary to, "they might do this"
Except for the fact that it's been shown by explosives experts and chemists alike that the "liquid explosive" theory is not viable. It is difficult to do under lab conditions and nearly impossible to do in the bathroom of an airplane. So, once again, it's knee jerk BS response.
Who'll want to work for little money and no social security? Other countries provide far better benefits, so poor people have no reason to emigrate to these countries.
That's nice. Should I bother mentioning the millions of illegals that come into the States every year from Mexico? Illegal as hell, and contrary to what the Tea Party says, illegals are not eligible for most "social security". Yet they still come. They work for low wages, no benefits, no security, and they work DAMN hard.
Last time I flew, I realized I still had my pocket knife on me. Take not that this realization was AFTER I was on the plane. Gotta love TSA. Jackasses.
I'll tell you where it is. Liquid. Apple has more cash on hand than the US Govt, in case you've missed it. It's in China. It's in Mexico.
It's not here, that's for damn sure.
Not entirely correct. In Phoenix, Arizona at least, cops legally have their full authority at all times. On-duty, off-duty, makes no difference. Mind you, this also means they are also held accountable as police even off duty. You notice this most often around malls and such when off duty cops are basically being security for hire. They can still arrest you, handcuffs and all, though they are still bound by Miranda and such.
Hmmmm, I'm getting flashbacks to the "blood banks" from the third Blade movie... Drop him into a giant Seal-A-Meal bag, hook up the tubes and vacuum out the air, keep him on a hook in the fridge with a keg tap attached.
Oh my god, you are a funny man. If you have EVER worked in a retail environment then you'd realize half of your comment was a waste of bytes. Consumers, as a general rule *DO NOT DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING*!
2. Customers can plan accordingly with respects to their phone agreements (big point) 3. Customers can plan accordingly with respects to their savings (medium point) 6. Customers can educate themselves about product expectations
"Plan accordingly" and "Educate themselves" are the last thing the average Joe Sixpack does in this society. The sheer number of idiots I deal with on a daily basis asking questions like, "Xbox games work on the PlayStation, right?" proves to me that planning and education are far down the list of consumer priorities. "Get eyebrows waxed" has higher priority to todays consumer!
I work for AT&T DSL as a phone support agent (please, no laughs...). But AT&T, evil as they are, does indeed offer dry-loop DSL in a lot of market areas. I deal with these customers all the time, they have naked DSL with cell phones or VoiP. Pretty nifty if you ask me. Though I still use cable for my ISP.
Except that the IT Dept. most likely had NOTHING to do with the decision to not include DVD drives. That was accounting.

Except when it involves travel, enter the TSA.
You might be a terrorist! They need to track YOU! And sell your information.
I would almost agree with you except for a couple of points.

The grassroots community will miss him? How so? Jobs and Apple have been crapping on the grassroots community for years.

Yep - Lot. What a nice guy.
Here's a clip that I love to trot out.

I actually like the X-Arcade stuff. For the money, it's pretty good. They have decent customer service and a great warranty.

Mentioned before, Twisted IS NOT A WEB FRAMEWORK. It's a networking framework, completely different.

Umm, except for the fact that it is perfectly legal and acceptable to sell GPL code. In fact, it's a right given to me under the GPL.
Read it sometime. =)

Um, if the victim is still alive, then it's NOT murder. It's assault or attempted murder. Duh.
