  1. Re:Far easier to burden on corporations. on Judging The Apple 'Sweatshop' Charge · · Score: 1

Worse we put these people in power only to have them ignore us.

We don't put "these people" into power - about 30% of us do. If people would actually vote in elections instead of sitting on their lazy asses whining all day and not actually doing anything, maybe we'd have some better people in power.

I'm not trying to say all of the problems like this would go away if people voted, only that it would give people a lot better reason to whine.

  2. Not as much as they should... on Do Kids Still Program? · · Score: 1

From experience (I'm a high school sophmore), I don't think there is enough emphasis placed on computer education. Half of my friends don't even know how to attach a picture to their e-mail.

There are computer science classes (I took Honors Comp. Sci. last year) but they're a bit of a joke. I learned a tiny bit of C++, but not even enough to do anything remotely useful. The only computer class the vast majority of kids I know take is Computer Applications, which teaches subjects ranging in difficuly from "Use of the Computer Mouse" to "How to Send an E-mail."

It seems like a lot of the resources that could be spent on important things (things that will get people somewhere in life) are being spent on athletics, which in my mind are not very important. Instead of computer labs, we're getting gymnasiums.

  3. Problem is with Media Center PCs in general on Viiv Falls Flat · · Score: 3, Informative

It seems to me like the Media Center PC market as a whole is doomed for failure. Sure, some people will like the idea of having content stored on a hard drive that they can view on their TV, but in general, people want simplicity and reliability.

Viiv (or any Media Center for that matter) can't deliver that. 90% of consumers don't want a box that they're going to have to boot up every time they want to record a show or watch TV. They want something that is easy to hook up, fast to start up (steps are being made towards this for PCs, but I haven't seen a whole lot so far), and, most of all, easy to use.

Sure, I can use Media Center, but do you think my mother can?

  4. Companies don't know when to stop on Philips Patents Technology to Force Ad Viewing · · Score: 1

Corporations are just trying to push consumers further and further. Eventually, enough consumers will get smart enough to realize what the companies are doing to them.

Let's imagine that Philips brings a TV like this to market. 5 or 10 percent of potential buyers (maybe less, who knows) will realize that this is an evil product and stay away from it. The other 90 to 95 percent will see the pretty picture on the box, not read any of the specs, and buy it.

Hopefully, the FCC is still effective enough that they'll never approve this. Oh wait... yes they will.

  5. Doesn't sound that good to me. on Download-only Single Becomes UK Number One · · Score: 1

Maybe it's just because I'm not British, but I just listened to this song on the group's website and it sounds pretty annoying.

#1 music is pretty much always crap though...
