There will be a TON of garbage among the recordings, like prank callers and people telling lame jokes. I think it is better this way for the overall quality of what you can hear ingame.
People won't be able to precisely foretell arising effects until the technology has actually been in action anyway. And even then, nobody can be sure that no long-term effects crop up.
Some time ago, people thought that it would be a good idea to feed cows with meat and bone meal.
...because if you spend all your youth being prisoners of machines...you're not going to know anything...You're gonna fail.
If we stop being the "prisoners of machines", we're going to be able to realize ourselves in society, which of course is absolutely free-minded and in no way controlled by, for instance, a government, the media or single, rich and powerful persons.
In the 18th century, many people in Europe were hooked to going to the theatre and watching plays of great writers trying to express themselves. Those were mostly young men and women and a lot of privileged people were against that new, emotion-centered kind of lifestyle, which they hadn't thought of being possible until then. (But it ultimately led to the French Revolution.) Young people in the 20th century devoted their lives to, for instance, cars and motorcycles or Elvis or whatever. And again, many people were against it. In my personal opinion, the whole thing's a kind of necessity, only evolving a little in appearance.
We DO have the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany (http://www.gc-germany.de/), which I believe is one of the best candidates to be the next gaming show with size of the E3. Although it is in Germany, it has greatly increased in popularity over the last few years, as more and more international game developers come there to show their stuff.
But we will see.
The problem is, as with every clever marketing strategy, that people will not realize how much money they actually spend.

Maybe you could try to find something you can play without stressing your fingers too much? Eye-Toy is the first thing that comes to my mind.

i think that the 'unfair advantage' in FPS games would be the ability to freely adjust your running speed.
so its like all the other people are also punished for someone going insane...
These ratings dont have any sense anyway.
